Welcome to Ormesby Middle School Online

Welcome to Ormesby Middle School. Our overall objective is for Ormesby Middle School to become a school of excellence. This means that we aim to create a learning environment that best helps our pupils build on the foundations of experiences, skills and knowledge acquired at their previous school and to help each child to attain his/her full potential.

Ormesby Middle School serves the communities of Ormesby St.Margaret, Ormesby St. Michael, Scratby, California, Filby, Runham and Stokesby. The school also draws pupils from further afield. We are a mixed sex Community Middle School for 8 - 12 year olds.

The school was opened in 1971 and has since been extended and adapted on several occasions to meet the changing needs of pupils. The school is well maintained and resources are constantly updated and renewed to meet the changing demands of the curriculum.

We have approximately 280 children in the school in 10 class bases. The children are based in mixed ability classes for pastoral purposes and remain in such for most lessons. However, by the time the children enter their final year they will be taught in ability groups for several subjects We believe our size is a positive advantage; large enough to employ a team of teachers with a range of expertise and interests across the curriculum yet small enough to know and care for the children in the school as individuals.

The Governors and staff take pride in our reputation as a happy, well-ordered school. We are frequently complimented on the pleasing appearance and good behaviour of our children, both it school and when out and about on educational visits.

The school was inspected by Ofsted during the summer of 2000 and we received a very pleasing report which states, "This is an effective school. Standards are above average in a number of subjects, including science. It is well led. It is a happy school in which pupils are made to feel cared for and valued...".
